Pray for Meredith

Archive for July 4th, 2009

Ton ight was a good night.  Meredith was more coherent and aware of our conversations.  She was laughing with Papa in a more connected way rather than just loopy like she has been.  She was writing better today and just communicating overall and listening better.

She is in a very figgety stage and has a lot of movement and energy, but it’s purposeful and just seems like she can’ t sit still.  But this is a normal stage for recovery from a coma and brain injuries.  She’s not in pain other than some sort of nerve or sensation issue in her right  heel, which is not keeping her from learning to walk.

She took in to close to 900 mL’s today so we’ll see if the tube gets to come out tomorrow or not.  Josh and Laura Campbell come for a visit tomorrow and then Josh will stay with her Sunday night and part of Monday.  Pray he and the nurses can help her get those many meds in her mouth.  It takes some work!

Meredith’s story

Eight year old Meredith has been in the hospital since April 27th, first in a medically induced coma and now for continued occupational and physical therapy. The doctors were baffled for over 3 weeks and didn't know what had caused her seizures and illness.

On May 13, Meredith was diagnosed with Acute Necrotyzing Encephalopathy after being transferred to Cincinnati Children's Hospital the day before.

On June 1, after slowly being eased off her anti-seizure meds over the course of many days, Meredith started rehab. The doctors estimate that she may be released in mid-July.

Please pray that Meredith continues to improve and respond with her therapies and pray for continued strength for Meredith's parents, sister and extended family.
