How Firm a Foundation

This is the hymn that fills Carrie’s mind, that gives her peace and strength. This is the hymn a mother sings to her daughter.

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
You, who unto Jesus for refuge have fled?

In every condition, in sickness, in health;
In poverty’s vale, or abounding in wealth;
At home and abroad, on the land, on the sea,
As thy days may demand, shall thy strength ever be.

Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen and help thee, and cause thee to stand
Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.

When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
The rivers of woe shall not thee overflow;
For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

When through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

Even down to old age all My people shall prove
My sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love;
And when hoary hairs shall their temples adorn,
Like lambs they shall still in My bosom be borne.

The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.

Precious Meredith – We are praying for you constantly in Columbus, MS. I know your grandparents (Michael & Glenda) and love and adore them. All of my students are wearing dots on the backs of their hands to remind them to pray for you. There are so many people praying for you everywhere. God is working through you in a MIGHTY way. I love you and can’t wait to meet you face to face one day soon!
Standing on HIS promises,
Liza Salley Shannon

Dear family, you all are in the prayers of the Schoon/Luther family. When I read Carrie last entry and she talks of God knowing what is wrong, I am inspired like never before to stand tall and know that God is there with his arms around this entire family. May God continue to bless and keep you.

Meredith, it’s me. When I go to the hospital to make “my rounds”, I now play this as one of my repertoire. You have a very good taste, honey, in choosing hymns.

Please get better and come back to me. I am waiting for you to check on what you wrote down was correct and I want to help you to play this on your violin. I wouldn’t mind playing a duet with you at your church and that’s a promise. That will be just super fantastic.

Meanwhile, I am praying for you along with many other men and women of faith and prayers that God may grant you a perfect and speedy recovery.

I will pray…I already have. I just found out and I am so sorry. I believe in prayer and will continue.
God be with you and help you all.
In Christ Love,

Our hearts, prayers, and thoughts have been with you every step of this journey from the moment your Mom emailed us she and your Dad were leaving for Lexington.

Let not your heart be troubled.
God’s timing is perfect and His Plan for Meredith is perfect, too.

Bless Be the Tie that Binds,

I am the granddaughter of Merediths Uncle Tom and Aunt Eloise and the daughter of Teresa Sylvest one of their seven children. I remember playing with Meredith at our family reunion in Gonzales. She was the sweetest thing. I hope she gets better so that I can play with her again some time! I was reading all of the e-mails in my classes and some of my friends started to cry and wish and hope that she gets better in the near future. I pray for little Meredith every night before I go to bed hoping that she gets better and that she will be better for the rest of her life and have no more troubles with this battle of ANE.

Love,
Erin (a second cousin)

Meredith’s story

Eight year old Meredith has been in the hospital since April 27th, first in a medically induced coma and now for continued occupational and physical therapy. The doctors were baffled for over 3 weeks and didn't know what had caused her seizures and illness.

On May 13, Meredith was diagnosed with Acute Necrotyzing Encephalopathy after being transferred to Cincinnati Children's Hospital the day before.

On June 1, after slowly being eased off her anti-seizure meds over the course of many days, Meredith started rehab. The doctors estimate that she may be released in mid-July.

Please pray that Meredith continues to improve and respond with her therapies and pray for continued strength for Meredith's parents, sister and extended family.
